What’s on Your Wish List?
Do you have a wish list? A list of all the things you want in life? If you do, great! If you don’t then I think you would benefit from creating one.
When I start working with new coaching clients, our first session involves creating a list of all the things they want. We don’t necessarily call them goals. And I don’t call them dreams or wishes either.
The other day I was with a new client, and we were creating their list, and I called it the “Santa Claus List” because it helps to take away the tendency to put limits on a person’s desires.
I have seen that some people don’t dream big enough, so creating a “Santa Claus List” can help you see past your self-imposed limitations and dream bigger.
A “Santa Claus List” is a list of all the things you would wish for if you believed a man in white beard and red suit could magically deliver everything you want through your chimney at night.
A Santa Claus List is the opposite of what you “should” want.
If you only wished for logical, sensible wishes, you would probably stay in the same situation for most of your life. But if you started thinking about what you’d wish for if you could have anything in the world, that might get your mind to see that your deepest wishes aren’t really impossible after all.
A Santa Claus List is about taking charge and creating the best life possible for yourself. What would be your best-case scenario? If you could have, do and be anything you want, what would that look like?
