10 Things I’ve Learned Since Leaving My Career to Start a Business

It’s been almost ten years since I decided to leave my career as a third-grade teacher and start a solopreneur business.

Here are 10 things I’ve learned in the past ten years.

1. If you are afraid to leave something that’s not working for you, just do it. Take the leap. You can figure it out. And the worst-case scenario would be that you could go back to it.

2. You may take a lot of detours on the way to your destination and that’s ok. When I started my business, I knew I wanted to help people get clarity when they were stuck. I imagined my business as a hybrid professional organizing business plus coaching, but it didn’t work out that way.

3. If you open yourself up to meeting people, the right people will always come into your life. This isn’t something that can be forced, but it works like magic.

4. Self-doubt is something that can hold you back forever, but only if you let it. And overcoming self-doubt is the most freeing thing you’ll ever learn.

5. Hiding will keep you stuck. Most people hide in some ways because they are afraid of what others will think. But hiding is the number one way to stay stuck.

6. Hormones impact your brain and body and life more than anyone ever tells you about.

7. The more you learn to trust your intuition, the more aligned your life will be.

8. The more you ignore your intuition, the more stuck you will be.

9. Whatever you want to do, be, or change, requires learning a new skill. And new skills can be learned once you identify what the skill is.

10. Every business and every job is really just about helping people. Find out how you enjoy helping people the most, and figure out a way to turn it into a business.
