What’s Really Getting in Your Way?
Why aren’t you fully going after what you really want?
If you are, then this won’t apply to you.
But if you’re like most of my coaching clients, you are successful, smart and driven. You know how to make things happen and you’ve done it all your life.
But you also may have a secret dream that keeps getting pushed to the back burner.
Maybe you delay it by telling yourself you’re so busy right now.
Busy with your family or kids.
Busy with work.
Busy with hobbies or classes you take to fill up any second of extra free time. Free time that you could be using to turn your dream into a project.
That “thing you really want” could be anything.
It could be something like:
Opening a bakery
Writing a book
Starting a business
Expanding your hobby or microbusiness into something bigger and bolder
Changing careers and doing something that’s not “like you.”
Starting a podcast
Becoming an actor
Really, it could be anything.
And what I’ve seen happen when you have a dream that’s pulling you in, what tends to happen before making any real, tangible steps toward it is this:
You hide or stall.
You wait until you feel more ready.
You make “excuses by saying you don’t have time.
Or maybe you say you don’t have the money or the skills yet.
Maybe you tell yourself you need to take a few classes so that you are better prepared.
By telling yourself you aren’t ready yet, or that you don’t have time or money to do it, you are delaying your dreams.
But what’s the real reason behind this delay?
There could be many reasons, but what I’ve found to be the most common reasons from coaching hundreds of successful people are these:
What will people think?
What if I fail? Then what? (Which just is another version of what will people think if I fail).
And so instead of going after it, making the time and committing to it, you stay hidden and busy.
Until you are ready. And you can be ready today.
Because when I work with clients who are in this situation, they think they don’t have the time or the money, but deep down they know the fears that are stopping them can be faced. Those fears can be extinguished and managed, and step by step we can neutralize them and get on with the dream building project planning part.
And then the bakery gets opened. The actor gets the part they want. The podcast gets created. And the books get written. It’s like magic.
