Why Are You Losing Motivation for Your Goals?
There are a lot of reasons you could be losing motivation for your goals. But I want you to know that losing motivation is rarely a permanent condition. And the worst thing you could do is give up during a time of low motivation. It’s during the times of low motivation and feeling like giving up that new ideas are born, so do not think something has critically gone wrong.
Here are some reasons you might be losing motivation for your goals:
1. You aren’t seeing results fast enough.
This is the number one reason people give up too soon. As humans, we want fast results when we expend our energy and attention. Especially when it’s a new or bold endeavor that makes us feel a bit vulnerable.
Getting what you really want requires faith without immediate evidence.
2. You aren’t enjoying the steps in the process.
If your goal involves a lot of “boring” or tedious steps to get there, you will probably lose motivation fast. We all think we want an easy or simple process, but I think what we really want is a doable and enjoyable process.
If the steps in your process to reach your goal don’t feel engaging or doable, you will lose motivation right away.
3. Your goal is really a “should.”
Most goals fail because they aren’t what you really really really want. They are shoulds. They are based on something you think you should want for yourself. This can be really hard to see if you aren’t used to going after what your heart really desires.
4. You are too attached to the outcome.
The opposite of creating a goal that you “should” want, is a goal that you want so much that you are overly attached to the outcome. This can squeeze the life out of your goal. If you are overly attached, your subconscious mind may think it’s a “make it or break it” situation and put you in freeze mode.
These are just four reasons you may lose motivation for your goal. What do you think is causing you to lose motivation?
