How Much Space Do You Leave for the Magic to Unfold?
If you’re like most modern, organized, responsible adults, you probably like to have a solid plan.
I think this is generally good, but the flip side of always needing a solid plan is that it can block the magic from coming in.
I believe that life is a series of adventures where we learn about ourselves and connect with others. And when we over plan, it can sometimes squash the magic. There’s something to be said for letting curiosity and spontaneity be your plan.
When I was 22, I cashed out a small pension that I had been accumulating from a government job that I worked during college, and set off for an adventure to Florence, Italy.
My only plan was to find a job as an English teacher and see what adventures would unfold.
I bought a one way ticket and made a reservation for one of those rooms that have just a bed and you have to share the bathroom down the hall with strangers.
Those were the only plans I made. And I knew I needed three things to make my new life work:
Friends
Job
Apartment
It was a simple list. Every day I’d get up and see what unfolded, looking for friends, a job and an apartment.
I found all three and all three developed and evolved over the next three years that I lived there. I didn’t have many plans and just let the magic take me to where I was supposed to go.
Where in your life do you want to let more of the magic unfold?
